HDD is a trenchless technology used to install pipes or cables underground without digging the entire route.
How HDD Works:
- Pilot drilling from entry point → exit point
- Reaming (enlarge bore size)
- Pull-back (pipe/cable pulled into the bore)
Where HDD is Used:
- Highways, railways, rivers crossing
- Busy roads/market areas
- Smart city OFC layout
- Gas/water pipelines
Advantages:
- No open digging
- Minimal traffic disturbance
- Fast and safe
- Reduced surface restoration cost
Limitations:
Higher cost vs trenching
Not ideal in rocky terrain
Requires skilled operators
